World May Be Forced to Go Vegetarian

Humans may have to go to a strictly vegetarian diet by the year 2050 according to new information that's been discussed at the World Water Conference in Stockholm, Sweden.

UN bodies, researchers, and politicians from over 100 countries are exploring how to deal with our global water supply crisis.

The research suggests that a significant reduction in worldwide meat consumption may be needed to address the water shortage.

The water scientists studying our global food supply say, "There will not be enough water available on current croplands to produce food for the expected 9 billion population in 2050. Humans derive about 20% of their protein from animal-based products now, but this may need to drop to just 5% to feed the extra 2 billion people expected to be alive" in the next 40 years.

Currently, about 70 percent of all useable water is used to either cultivate crops or to provide for animals. Producing protein-rich foods involves using 5 to 10 more times water than a vegetarian diet. This means greater burden on resources needed to feed the human population by 2050.

Turkey Rescue 2011

Please enjoy, post and share this fun video, which introduces Russell and Perry who were saved from the Thanksgiving slaughter industry. You'll see them getting their bath and blow-dry, meeting the neighborhood kids, getting tucked in for their first night in their safe little coop, and wandering freely and happily around the garden. The video includes a playful little retrospective of my three previous turkey couples, including their meetings with some animal friendly celebs. It also has a brief segment reminding us of the fate of the other 60 million turkeys who were bred for this year's Thanksgiving.

Russell and Perry were named after the newly vegan newlyweds Russell Brand and Katy Perry. They were originally Russell and Katy but when Katy let out a very loud and very male gobble we realized that she, or he, had to be renamed. I hope you enjoy getting to know them.

Protecting Marine Life: We Must Be Guardians Of The Earth

The brutal exploitation of our aquatic cousins and the decimation of the oceans at the hands of man has now reached catastrophic proportions. The killing of hundreds of tons of fish each year... the capture, confinement and slaughtering of whales, sharks and dolphins... the maiming and slaying of other marine life... all have devastating and far-reaching consequences. If we fail to defend the ocean and all that lives in its depths, then life on Earth will simply not exist. We need to change our ways and we need to do it NOW. We must begin to value all life upon Earth as having its own rightful existence and steer away from the arrogance that threatens to destroy us.

Easy things you can do:
Please don't support marine parks (prisons) or aquariums!
Please speak out against commercial whaling and shark finning!
Please don't eat fish and other seafood!

Go vegan for ALL life, human and non-human, and for the future of our planet! Visit: www.evolvecampaigns.org.uk

There is hope if people will begin to awaken that spiritual part of themselves, that heartfelt knowledge that we are caretakers of this planet. ~Brooke Medicine Eagle

Eat A Vegan Diet To Save Money On Food And Health Care Costs

Eating a plant-based diet will save on food costs and health care costs. Ellen Jaffe Jones, Author of "Eat Vegan On $4 A Day," shares how in this video: A half-cup serving of beans cooked from scratch costs about a dime. The same serving from a can of beans is about twice that much. The same size serving of the cheapest hamburger meat—which is 30% fat—costs fifty to sixty cents, or at least 5 times more than beans. When you look at more expensive cuts of meat, such as beef tenderloin at 85 cents an ounce and that equals $3.40 for 4 ounces or $6.80 for 8 ounces! And that is 34 times more expensive than beans! Another way to save money is by avoiding the hospital. Meat consumption causes cardiovascular disease. And a bypass surgery in the US can cost between $100,000-$200,000.

Ellen Jaffe Jones is "THE VEG COACH." She is a personal trainer, running coach, author, and teaches healthy cooking classes designed by respected doctors and registered dieticians.

Veganism: Moral and Political Commitment to Abolition and Nonviolence

"Veganism is not merely a matter of diet; it is a moral and political commitment to abolition on the individual level and extends not only to matters of food, but to clothing, other products, and other personal actions and choices. Becoming a vegan is the one thing that we can all do today—right now—to help animals. It does not require an expensive campaign, the involvement of a large organization, legislation, or anything other than our recognition that if "animal rights" means anything, it means that we cannot justify consuming or using meat, fish, dairy, eggs, or other animal products.

Veganism reduces animal suffering and death by decreasing demand. It represents a rejection of the commodity status of nonhumans and recognition of their inherent value. Veganism is also a commitment to nonviolence and the animal rights movement should be a movement of peace and should reject violence against all animals—nonhuman and human"

Chocolate, Cheese, Meat, and Sugar -- Physically Addictive

Neal Barnard MD discusses the science behind food additions. Willpower is not to blame: chocolate, cheese, meat, and sugar release opiate-like substances. Dr. Barnard also discusses how industry, aided by government, exploits these natural cravings, pushing us to eat more and more unhealthy foods. A plant-based diet is the solution to avoid many of these problems. Neal Barnard is the founder of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM).

Let us never stopped spread the Compassion and Peace message. Let us help more meat eaters choose vegetarian/vegan meals, Let us Bring more Peace and Harmony for all. Viva Vegetarian.

Incredible surveillance camera video from Chile of a stray dog gently rescuing another stray dog from the middle of the highway in heavy traffic.

Unfortunately the reporter got it wrong when he said the injured dog lived, he died at the vet some time after, and the other dog escaped back into the urban terrain. A good Samaritan never hangs out looking to take credit.

I have no further information about this story, I just liked it and decided to share. Please stop asking me how you can adopt the savior dog.

Farm Sanctuary Piglets at Play

Sometimes it is nice to see just how all pigs should be able to live.

Sprinkles came to us as a nervous, skinny little piglet who wouldnt eat. Rescued from a factory farm that had separated him from his mother, docked his tail and castrated him without anesthesia, Sprinkles was traumatized and scared of the world. Tim was the runt of his litter. Found malnourished and sickly, he had a badly-injured foot and a large hernia and faced premature death. Abandoned by those who were supposed to care for him, Tim was inconsolable when he first arrived at our New York Shelter.

Alone, these little pigs were timid, frightened and sad. And though they warmed up to and sought solace from their caregivers, they still longed for the comfort that only another member of their species could provide. Lucky for them, we had the exact medicine they needed to pull through and wasted no time introducing the two. Bonded within moments of meeting, Sprinkles and Tim received the greatest gifts any animal could ask for — permanent refuge and a friendship that will last a lifetime. Since the happy day they met, the two have been unstoppable, as you can see from their wild romp in this sweet video. Confident and deliriously happy, Sprinkles and Tim are now grown, but remain the best of friends.

Is Eating Organic Food Important?

No matter where I go, or who I talk to, the most common questions about healthy foods that get are these...

Why should I eat organic food vs conventional? Are organic foods really better than conventional foods? How do I know that I'm not being scammed?

You'd think that with the scientific evidence that pesticides are harmful and organics have more nutrients than conventional foods that people would start switching over.

But it's not the case. I read in a magazine recently that 98% of the population still doesn't eat organics (who knows if that number is right or not, but even if it's 70%, it's still a big deal!)

Many of you who read this blog, are in that other 2%, but we still want our friends, family members and fellow humans to be healthy and not suffer from unnecessary toxic load.

So I've created a demonstration, that hopefully we can share that may change our perspective on the importance of organic foods...
